Dathorn Quickstart
Quickstart:
1- The WHM / Cpanel Relationship
cPanel is a fully-featured web-based control panel that allows you to manage your domain through a web interface. The idea is to transfer as much of the control and responsibility of managing your web site to you. You have the ability to manage all aspects of email, files, backup, FTP, CGI scripts, and web site statistics.
WebHost Manager (WHM) is the control center of the cPanel / WebHost Manager package. It is used to set up and manage accounts, monitor bandwidth and services, and much more - all aspects of web hosting are covered through WebHost Manager. You can keep track of the accounts on your server, their bandwidth, and disk space usage, and more with only an Internet connection and the click of a button.
2- Quick Start - Setting up a domain on your account
A - setting up a package(s)
Packages > Add Package
Before you can create an account in WHM you must create a corresponding package.
This package will include the amount of disk space and bandwidth that the domain
account will be allowed and controls what features it will be given access to.
B - Creating the account
Note: If you have not created a package as outlined above you will receive the following error when trying to create an account: "You do not have access to create that package (undefined)!"
Account Functions > Create a New Account
Now that you have a package created for your account you can go and create the
actual account. Enter your domain without the “www.” and make sure to
select your package at the very bottom of the form. If you do not select a package
you will receive the following error:
C - Pointing the DNS entry to the space at registrar
Now that you have created your domain on our servers you must login at your domain’s
registrar (the place where you registered your domain) and change the nameservers
for your domain to the following.
dns#.gzo.com
nameserverip1
dns#.gzo.com
nameserverip2
Note: Depending on your registrar you may not need to enter the IP addresses.
Optionally, you can use your own custom nameservers by creating them as nameservers
(DNS) hosts at your registrar.
ns1.yourdomain.com
nameserverip1
ns2.yourdomain.com
nameserverip2
Once you have created the host entries at your registrar you can now use those
nameservers for any domain that you want pointed at our servers, including
yourdomain.com.
D - Access the webspace using FTP / IP address to upload site prior to DNS completion
To access your FTP before the new DNS has propagated you can use the IP as the
server that you connect to. To find out what IP an account is using, login to WHM
and go to Account Functions > List Accounts. Your username and password will be the
same as you entered when creating the account in WHM.
E - Setting up the E-Mail system for the account
If you want to use an e-mail client to check your e-mail you can use
mail.yourdomain.com as the POP3/SMTP/IMAP address.
**All of the following assume that you are using the Xskin2 cPanel theme.**
3 - Password Protecting Directories
To protect a directory by requiring a correct username and password combination go
to the Password Protection utility. Once there you will see a list of your
directories. Simply click the folder that you would like to password protect and you
will be taken to a page where you can enable and disable password protection as well
as create the username and password combinations that have access to that particular
directory.
4 - How to access the tools to create MySQL databases.
To create the necessary MySQL users and databases you can use the MySQL Database
utility. First you must create a database. Simply enter the database name in the
field next to “Db:” and click the “Add Db” button. Now just below that is a form
that allows you to create users, enter their username and password and click the
“Add User” button. Now go back up to the very first form and select the username and
the database that you want that user to have access to and click the “Add User to
Db” button.
