    strange referals appearing in Awstats

I have noticed in the past in my cpanel awstats that there are some strange links appearing in in the referal links in awstats. These are a list of links of how people are directed to your website. A bunch of porn sites appeared on the list fomr one site in particular and if you check those links there is no reference to my site.

Does anyone know how these links could have appeared in awstats?

They're spam related sites trying to exploit scripts that have trackbacks and referral based commenting systems. WordPress is an example of a script using trackbacks (although it's quite easy to administer spam through WordPress.)

Unfortunately, there's not a great deal that you can do about this apart from ignore the entries.

    Edit
I did actually start using the deny from command in a .htaccess file for those IP addresses that appeared regularly in my raw logs. That cut down some of the referral spam.
