Using SSL with POP, FTP, Cpanel, etc

As I understand it, using POP3, FTP, and Cpanel sends your account name and password in clear text. Does Dathorn support POPS, FTPS, etc. to allow me to use my account, but keep my passwords hidden from sniffers?

Does WS_FTP or any other FTP client have the capability besides FileZilla? I feel like FileZilla takes forever to start-up.

FileZilla is one of the only free ftp clients that does SFTP.

the free version of WS_FTP does not work with this.

WS_FTP pro has SFTP (from the looks of the site)
        Cute FTP pro has SFTP

everyone please respond and tell us if your favorite client supports FTPS

The process to set it up should be very similar.

As a Mac user, I use Transmit which supports SFTP. Not free, but cheap ($25)

              Use
              Code:
              https://your_domain.com:2083/
              for secure cpanel

In the past there were some issues with cpanel that blocked SFTP on the servers but I can use SFTP now on cpanel26.

WINSCP is great, but I believe it tunnels and isn't SFTP. Still, I'm not sure what advantages SFTP has over it.

KyleC, I read your tutorial, but I couldn't make it work under FileZilla or WinSCP.

Perhaps I am confused by your first instruction. How do enable SSL for my account? Is this a WHM setting, a cPanel setting, or do I need to buy and install a cert?

I've got the same question- how do I enable ssh?

To enable SSH on an account you simply need to modify the account via WHM and check the "Shell" check box.

Yeah, I tried that but still didn't work. Is it only for the main account or can it be enabled on ftp accounts under that one?
