Postini Spam & Virus E-Mail Filtering Now Available!

We are now offering Postini spam and virus filtering accounts for $2.50/month each. Please submit a trouble ticket to our billing department to order. We've tested Postini thoroughly and are very pleased with it to say the least, we are even using it on all of our own e-mails now.

Yesterday alone we filtered 23,629 e-mails through Postini, 86.7% of them were spam or contained a virus. None of those e-mails ever reached our servers because of the filtering.

For those that are unfamiliar with Postini, each Postini account has a "Message Center" that stores all e-mails that are considered spam or are infected with a virus. One Postini account can be used to filter a single e-mail address with a maximum of 5 e-mail address aliases.

Some of the benefits of Postini:

    1. Superb spam and virus e-mail filtering. It can be configured to be lenient or aggressive, we've been using the most aggressive settings with great success. There are also options for whitelisting and blacklisting.

    2. Daily filtering reports. Perhaps one of the "coolest" features of the Postini service is actually seeing how much spam is being filtered, where it is coming from, etc.

    3. Spam and virus infected e-mails never reach our servers. On average, our servers process approximately 25,000 e-mails per day per server. The vast majority of these e-mails are spam. Stopping the e-mails from ever reaching our servers reduces the overall burden that is placed on them.

    4. If your server goes down the Postini servers will still spool your e-mail and deliver it as soon as the server comes back online. Without Postini you have to depend on the sending server attempting to re-deliver several hours later.

If you have any questions about this at all, please feel free to submit a trouble ticket or post here in the forums.

We've had tremendous interest in this service thus far and I would just like to warn users that it will take longer than normal to process all of these requests for Postini service. Please be patient.

Postini has just contacted us and it appears that their definition of a catchall address is different from how it is most often used in the hosting industry.

The Catchall feature enables administrators to set up spam and virus filtering for an entire domain without needing to create message center accounts on the Postini service. This feature can be useful in providing protection during the short time between creating an email address on the email server and creating a corresponding message center account in the Postini service.
Furthermore they have just recently updated their requirements on e-mail address aliases due to what the deem to be "abuse" of their system.

Basically, we are now restricted to a single Postini account only filtering a single e-mail address with a maximum of 5 e-mail address aliases.

As a result, I will be contacting the individuals that are already using this service and be offering full refunds if they so desire. We're still offering the service but realize that we must now adhere to the limits set forth above. No longer can multiple domains be filtered entirely with a single Postini account.
