    FTP slow on Cpanel23b

Is anyone else having FTP problems on Cpanel23b?

I'm in the UK, but it certainly used to be fast. For the past few weeks, it's been taking an age to do anything, and the connection is often dropped.

This is generally a problem with the FTP client and settings. The most reliable method that we've found is to simply use SFTP or SCP.

      Yep - that's much better!

Switching to SFTP made it much more reliable, and it seems fast enough for day to day usage. Many thanks.

        Why faster?

How can using SSL mode be faster? Doesn't it require more authentication?
The security is obvious but any SSL page is noticeably slower than non-SSL.

The problem with regular FTP is the amount of ports that it tries to open in order to upload files, which in turn can cause the connection to time out. This is generally an issue with local routers that might be on your network. This is not so much of a problem with SFTP/SCP.

Besides, sending a plain text FTP password probably isn't such a great idea.
