    Default 6/23/07 - cpanel38 Mail Server Conversion

At approximately 6:00PM CDT this Saturday we will begin converting cpanel38 from mbox to maildir. This conversion brings quite a significant performance increase and is also necessary for the eventual upgrade to cPanel version 11.

While the conversion process is running you will not receive any e-mails. Instead, these e-mails will be queued and delivered once the process is complete. We do not expect this to take any longer than 4 hours.

If you have any questions please feel free to submit a ticket.

To clarify a bit further, you will not be able to login to your e-mail accounts at all during this conversion process. It prevents access to the accounts while they are all being converted to the new format and restores access once the conversion is complete.

This conversion process has now begun and I will update this thread once it completes. Please remember that during this process you will not be able to access your e-mail (it will deny your login).

The conversion has been completed. The server is now running through the mail queue and delivering e-mail that was queued during the conversion process.

Two important things regarding this conversion:

    1. You may notice that e-mail accounts are now using more disk space than before. This is due to the change in the way that the mail is stored. Essentially each e-mail is now in a separate file whereas before each folder only had a single file.

    2. You may need to re-subscribe to your IMAP folders via your e-mail client and/or via webmail.
