Automated user/member signup for image gallery

I don't know if I'm in the right section ... So forgive me if I placed it in the wrong section.

I'm trying to create a family website that will contain photos. My family wants the image gallery to be password protected. I know that there are a bunch of CGI/Perl image galleries but I don't know where to start looking.

I want each member of my family to be able to upload their own photos to the image gallery, under their own username/password.

And at the same time I want the image gallery to be viewed only by members of my family. Will something like this: http://www.siteinteractive.com/acctlite/ Do the trick?

    Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

i would just use gallery, it allows you to protect the whole gallery by making all the gallerys only viewable to signed in users. and each user can have their own separete gallery.
    http://gallery.menalto.com

or just dont link to the gallery, just tell them what the url is via email and no one else should be able to find it.

Woo hoo! Thanks Kyle! That would definitely be much simpler than having to install Account Lite and an image gallery. *lol*

Yet another option, is to setup your favorite Gallery script,
and use cPanel to password protect the directory.
From there, only let family member(s) know of the user/password,
as well as the URL to even get to the gallery

Hi Jonathan! So if I password protect the directory that has the gallery script and images the photos won't be able to be viewed without the username and password? Will the photos be able to be indexed by Google?

          Thank you!

Correct, the photos could not be viewed by anyone without the proper password.

I don't know if Google can index them, but you can add a robots file to prevent this.

I believe Google could still index them, Oz, do I'd
say google on how to setup a robot.txt file to deny access
              to the gallery images folder.

I ran a google search and discovered a page: http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/norobots.html that tells you all about how to stop search engines from indexing pages.

Google can't index cpanel password protected directories.

                    I use 4Images myself.

With any of the scripts like this you should be able to set it so that only members can view anything and also so that you have to approve all members.

To keep robots from indexing your site just put a robots.txt file in the root directory (public_html) with this in it:

                    User-agent: *
                    Disallow: /

                    And that's it.

CopperMine Gallery (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/) should serve your needs.

                        I second gallery.

I use gallery and invision power board for my family site. It took a bit of work to get both of the scripts to work together. Now that they do, my family signs up on invision power board and then their login works in gallery also.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'll check out 4Images and CopperMine Gallery.

I'll definitely add the robots.txt. Thanks so much!
