DNS subdomain redirection to other CNAME?

I'm trying to point a subdomain (subversion.mydomain.com) to a different domain name (subversion.dynalias.com). This is because my router will update the dynamic address automatically so if my IP changes, I don't have to update DNS IP records manually.

However when I try to do this in the WHM panel, when I type in a CNAME of 'subversion.dynalias.com', it gets suffixed with '.mydomain.com'. So, the entry is bad, in that it ends up being 'subversion.dynalias.com.mydomain.com'.

Am I using the right mechanism? The behavior of CNAME and DNAME seem to be the same as far as the suffixed address.

I'll go ahead and quasi-answer my own question. I was told by a buddy that you have to end the domain with a '.' otherwise, it adds the origin.

So, my cname entry should be 'subversion.dynalias.com.'

It at least accepts it in the entry- I'll post up if it actually works.

Your buddy is correct. You'll need the trailing period.

And yes- it worked! Dynamic IP address pointed to by a normal-looking domain name.
