    Mailing List Software

Going to start hosting a new site here shortly that has been using godaddy's email marketing service. Looking for an alternative to that service. I don't have a number on the mailing list, but guesstimating around 500 or less.

Never done a mail list, so looking for information or recommendations from folks here who have used them before or currently. Obviously I don't want to bog the server down or cause issues, so any info is good info for me.
Hosting at Dathorn since March 2003!

For bulk mailing I recommend phpList hands down. This can even be automatically installed via Softaculous in cPanel.

Be prepared to get warnings from Dathorn about mail server abuse.

They are pretty harsh on mass mailing of any kind. I had to disable such option on forums as each time I sent anouncement (which was pretty rare) I got warnings.

As long as you abide by our bulk email policies there won't be any problems. There is a section dedicated to this near the end of our AUP. Most forum scripts will not be capable of meeting these requirements.

I'm using mailman for small low-traffic lists hosted at Dathorn (~50-100 subscribers, 1-5 messages per day); these are work lists, so no random subscribers, but I've never had any issues with Dathorn and generally, it's performing really well.
