    SSL Newbie Question

    Hello.

    One question about SSL:

Since you have to send to the Certification Authority the server generated file... an SSL Cert is bound to a specific server?

I.E. If i generate the file, get a cert and install it, and later I move from shared hosting to a dedicated server... do I have to get a new certificate?

    Thanks.

    Hector Gutierrez.

ssl is keyed to IP address

My understanding is that yes, you would. SSL certs are keyed to your IP address. So, if you moved from a shared environment to dedicated hosting, your IP would most likely change (unless somehow your dedicated machine was previously used as the shared environment).
