Access phpMyAdmin, but not through cPanel

I need to setup user account access for phpMyAdmin from the cpanel phpMyAdmin but not giving access to the cPanel. Is there a port number I can use to give access to just phpMyAdmin.

Thanks in advance for any assistance on this.

You could setup a redirect under cPanel that would forward the user to the correct URL for phpmyadmin and prompt them for a login.
This would however also give them access to cPanel if they modified the URL after logging in.

Maybe install a local copy of phpMyAdmin for them to use rather than using the server wide copy?

the local copy does not seem to be as fast? and I cannot give access to cPanel, so I will have to stick with the local copy. I have the directory secured with .htaccess so what authorization mode would be the fastest way to connect config, http, or cookie?
