Shopping Cart - simple best approach

php - mysql cart of course.

I've tried OsCommerce, phpShop and others. All seem like a huge amount of stuff for the functionality. Also, I have problems with the smaller size thumbnails not being automatically created for uploaded images. Noticed this when one potential customer blew through the 100mb bandwidth I had set and noticed the thumbnails were resized but still 100k or so each.... ouch.

I'm watching www.cubecart.com to see what their new version brings.

    What are others using?

    Thanks Dave

i use oscommerce and like it enough, yeah it has some quirks, but it is not bad all-n-all. As for thumbnails, there is a mod, takes about 5 minutes to install and does a great job.

      X-Cart

Check out X-Cart. My main concern was speed. It runs real fast on Andrew's boxes. The Ruskies have built a light version but I run the Gold. It's a pretty good deal. If you know a little about PHP and more (unlike me), you should be able to tweak the hell out of it. They will set you up pretty cheap and it's rock solid. They have a few things set up so that you need to go back to them but if you know what to ask for they do it for next to nothing. I checked out one of the sites on the cart you mentioned and except for the soft-porn aspect I was unimpressed. Too slow. Maybe it's the servers. You could be running a 33.6 modem and my cart would still "pop" the windows. My 2 bits.

        ZenCart is another option.

For pure ecommerce sites, I use ZenCart. Much easier to customize appearance than osCommerce. The core comes with all the extra features built in so you don't have to keep up with all the extra contributions or depend on someone else's "loaded" version. It is an offshoot of osCommerce so the functionality is similar, just more integrated. especially the admin functions.
        Site is zencart.com.

          Did you mention...

Did you mention that the price was right? Zen cart is free
That's worth a try in my book.

After checking out Zencart's site and looking thru, it looked really like OScommerce. I am going to try it out soon and if it is as good as you have stated. I will be implementing most if not all of my e-com projects using zencart.

            Thanks for the intro/tip.
