MySQL 5 has been out for quite a while now and it is time that we begin upgrading each server from MySQL 4. MySQL 5 offers many new features and performance enhancements. It also resolves a rather serious bug where a single PHP 5 script can crash the entire MySQL 4.1.x server under certain circumstances on RHEL 5.
On Saturday, October 27th, we will be upgrading cpanel45 from MySQL 4.1.x to MySQL 5.0.x.
We highly recommend making sure that all of your scripts are compatible with MySQL 5 with strict mode disabled prior to the upgrade. We will not be running it with strict mode enabled as this is generally the cause for most of the compatibility problems. We're giving you quite a bit of advance notice to allow enough time for you to address any possible problems that might arise before the upgrade actually takes place. Based on our testing thus far, most scripts should have no problems with this upgrade, especially if you are running the most recent version.
