Summary of 2010
2010 was a very busy and exciting year for us. We started off by deploying the LiteSpeed web server on all of our servers (replacing Apache). The results were simply amazing. This has proven to be one of the single best performance improvements that we've made. Not long after that we added Softaculous to all of our servers. Softaculous is a superb alternative to Fantastico. They've added over 30 new scripts just since we began offering it last April and script updates continue to be released as fast as one could expect.
In June our new DNS infrastructure went live; providing a single set of fully redundant name servers to all of our customers. This will be very useful this year as we upgrade all of our server hardware. Lastly we added PHP 5.3 support to all of our servers in October.
Plans for 2011
We have some great things planned for 2011 as well. We hope to launch the re-design of our new website and customer control panel in the 1st quarter. I'm very happy with what we have and I think you will be as well. I can't wait to show it off!
We'll be completely revamping our backup system. Our plan is to have this completed by the end of 2nd quarter assuming necessary software updates that we're waiting on are released in a timely manner. This will be a tremendous improvement over the current backup options while still retaining the offsite availability.
The last of the big projects that we have planned for 2011 so far is a complete upgrade of all server hardware. Unlike many hosts, we do regularly upgrade our server hardware and when we do it, we go all out. These upgrades are by no means necessary as the existing servers have been performing flawlessly. We simply want to provide the best possible hosting experience and there is no where better to do so than on brand new top of the line hardware. We already have some specs worked out and I'm looking very forward to rolling these out. We hope to begin doing so during 2nd quarter. Once these upgrades are complete you can expect a significant increase in our hosting plan disk quotas across the board.
