Happy New Year! Looking Forward to 2012!

    Summary of 2011

As I'm sure many of you are aware, 2011 has been an amazing year for us here at Dathorn. In May we launched our completely redesigned website and client portal which was long overdue. We're very happy with the results and from the feedback that we've received, our clients love them as well.

In August we proudly announced our brand new hosting infrastructure. We then spent the next three months getting all of our existing shared hosting servers migrated over to brand new hardware at our new location. This process was very successful with zero downtime involved. The new hardware has performed superbly and we're very happy with the outcome. Many of you have also noticed the speed improvements. It's nice to see what a lot of RAM (12 times!) and solid state disks can do in a shared hosting environment.

The new servers brought CloudLinux along with and this has been a tremendous asset. In normal usage scenarios you wouldn't even notice that it is there but the moment a single user starts abusing system resources, CloudLinux steps in and keeps it under control. It's still no replacement for proactive server management but it is a very effective tool to have.

    Plans for 2012

As we continue through 2012 we hope to get all of our dedicated server clients migrated over to new hardware at our new location. Many of these clients will be getting brand new upgraded servers at zero additional cost to them. Some have even opted for an all SSD configuration which we're very excited to work with.

We've been offering Postini's (now Google) mail filtering service for quite some time and we're in the initial stages of evaluating some self-hosted alternatives through various appliances like those found from MailFoundry and Barracuda. Postini is still great at filtering out spam and virus infected emails, it just isn't all that cost effective for those that have a lot of email addresses. We also want to have something that we can manage ourselves and perhaps even pass all outgoing mail through it to help prevent spam from ever leaving our servers.

Lastly, and some would say most importantly, we'll be celebrating our official 10th year in business later this year. What better way is there to celebrate 10 years than with 10GB of disk space? Effective immediately all of our hosting plan limits have been increased and these changes have been passed along to all existing clients free of charge. The 10GB of disk space that our Basic plan now includes is a whopping 250% increase! A small bandwidth increase has also been included to simplify our hosting plans. Our website has been updated to reflect these changes:

    Basic
    4GB Disk → 10GB Disk
    90GB Bandwidth → 100GB Bandwidth

    Business
    6GB Disk → 15GB Disk
    135GB Bandwidth → 150GB Bandwidth

    Professional
    8GB Disk → 20GB Disk
    180GB Bandwidth → 200GB Bandwidth

    Corporate
    12GB Disk → 30GB Disk
    270GB Bandwidth → 300GB Bandwidth

We thank all of you for your loyal business over the years and wish you a very Happy New Year!
