    Network problems

I'm referring to the current network problems described at http://forums.dathorn.com/showthread.php?t=1734. I know, it isn't fault of dathorn, but having >3 hours downtime (and it still goes on) only tonight, that's _very_ bad. Isn't there a more reliable center than The Planet? Anybody has any experience with something more reliable? I simply wonder, if such problem lasts for several hours, is really someone working hard on its fix???

    Jiri

P.S.: As I read it, probably not the most clever post I ever wrote, but I'm desperate, downtime is such a bad thing...

And now it's more than 4 hours, oh that's _so_ bad.

Previous to this outage, I think The Planet has had one of the best reputations in the business. So, there was no reason to change data centers before this. Changing data centers is a painful process for all involved. It's not something you do lightly.

I haven't studied the problem of datacenters in details, possibly Planet isn't bad at all. Also, 4 hours downtime/year isn't that bad, what I don't like is that these 4 hours was a continuous problem and according to Andrew there's still no official statement made about this. This makes me wonder when the next several hours downtime will happen...

You don't have to worry about when the next problem is going to happen, if past performance is any guide. Dathorn publishes the links to the Alerta independent monitoring service at http://forums.dathorn.com/showthread.php?t=4. You can see the history of the different servers.

For instance, I came to Dathorn and waited for Cpanel08 to be set up. Since that time, my uptime report shows:

Broken down by year, it reports this way:

            2003 41 99.829%
Some of those outages are planned maintenance outages; the server was upgraded at one point to allow even better response.

Dathorn doesn't have an "uptime guarantee", but they don't need one. When you historically run at over 99%, that's enough evidence to me that the data center and the company are stable.
