    Pre-sales questions

I am on another hosting site right now that I am very happy with, but they only have majordomo for mailing list support now, and it has lots of limits in terms of message size (like 40Kbytes), and this is not changable. So I'm looking around and found good comments about dathorn. I havea few domains that I use for my consulting business, home domain, and running a website for a non-profit org.

After looking at the descriptions I still have a few questions:

    1) I use IMAP exclusively. Does the server software support multiple IMAP connects simultaneously?

    2) Because I store my folders on the server via IMAP, it takes up a fair amount of space. Is there a limit on my mail storage that is different from total storage allocated to the site?

    3) I understand you have mailman support. Is there a limit on the max size of a message? Is that limit adjustable?

    4) What controls are available for DNS configuration? That is, can I add/delete various records for domains that are hosting on the server, or is this done automatically for me?

    5) What kind of webmail is available?

    6) Do you have fantastico support for autoloading scripts?

    7) Is there a status page that tells me the state of the services running on my server?

    8) If I wanted to be sure I was in the Dallas Datacenter, can I request my account be added there?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    1. Yes.

    2. No.

    3. We really do not recommend the use of Mailman if you are going to be sending out a large amount of e-mails. You will need something to split them up into multiple sets of sends or else this can cause huge problems in a shared host environment.

    4. It is all automatically done but you can edit them manually as well if you request this ability after you signup.

    5. Neomail, Horde, and Squirrelmail.

    6. No, we do not offer Fantastico but we do have all of the cpskins.com cPanel themes and auto-installers (see www.cpskins.com).

    7. There is one available in WHM, but it's not reliable nor is it live so we don't recommend using it. There are some that other customers have made available but I don't keep track of the URLs, sorry.

    8. That's not even an issue as everything we have is being placed in Dallas at The Planet.

Andrew, thanks for the quick reply. I understand the issues of large volumes of email in a shared host environment. The distribution groups I am talking about have about a dozen people on them. It's a multi->multi function - anyone on the group should be able to send email to the other members.

I am NOT talking about hundreds of email recipients. These email lists are for coordination of project activities for the non-profit, and I don't like people having to do cut and paste of a dozen names on the to: line.

So in this kind of context, would mailman work well? I am not talking about people sending large attachments either, but the 40K limit in majordomo on my existing host is a problem with html mail. What are the limits for mailman on dathorn?

      Thanks,
      Mike

In that case it would be fine. I don't believe there are any set limits on Mailman on any of our servers.
