    website transfers

I am seriously looking at you guys for my hosting solution. I am currently with kmhost.net and am NOT happy at all.

BUT, I am afraid of the transfer process. I noticed in your forums that you can transfer my websites for $0.50 per domain... which I would love to do... but could you please give me some reassurance on the process, etc. -- is it a seemless process (my customers don't notice the change)? Take into consideration that my current DNS domain will NOT make the move with me (part of the problem with kmhost). Also, can you do MySQL / PHP sites? -- I am afraid of losing my forums, etc.

The transfer process will involve no downtime so long as the accounts on the existing host remain active for at least 48 hours after the transfer has been made. Once we actually transfer the data you will have to update the nameservers accordingly to our IPs.

If the Cpanel transfer works, the MySQL databases are transferred also.

One word of caution, and this has nothing to do with Dathorn but everything to do with the whole process of DNS transfer.

If your customers have static web sites, meaning that they do not have blogs, forums, galleries, shopping carts, etc. that are updated throughout the day, the transfer will be transparent to them and anyone using their website.

However, if any of your customers have those features on their web site they will know something is up. In fact, they will think something is broken.

When you update the nameservers to reflect the new site at Dathorn it will take 24 - 48 hours to resolve for everyone else. I had several cases where it took 72 hours for it to resolve (this was because of a very large ISP who had a configuration problem).

During this 24 - 72 hour period, people updated their blogs, forums, and galleries. When the nameservers finally resolved, that information was "lost."

I advised my customers it was coming. I told them it was because of growth, and a desire to move to a more secure, more reliable server. That way they didn't panic.
