Why do I bother to talk??

So about a month ago some friends from church emailed us and asked about what all needs to be done to get a website for a business venture they are going to start.

My wife asked them the usual questions to get an idea what they needed and what they wanted to accomplish. It was nothing complicated in the slightest and we said it would run you about x-dollars. They seemed ok with it but did not pursue it much which was fine with me as I dislike doing business with friends.

Last week they sent an example site they liked and wanted to know if I could model their site like it, not a problem since the site was your typical cookie-cutter site with no original features design wise.

Anywho, this afternoon I get home and my wife said they called and that they did not want to go with us (fine with me). She said they went to a seminar (DANGER DANGER) on Saturday and signed with a company to do the work for them. I said please tell me it was not that same company out of Orem UT that had sold 6 sites to a possible client we had a few years ago (sucker!).

Turns out it was the same place, it is called stores online . com. The place is a total rip, just Google it and there are pages and pages of complaints about this outfit.

I have two questions, has anyone else dealt with the wreckage of this company and am I the only one that gives advice that no one ever listens too??? I stopped years ago giving technical advice to family members since they did what they wanted anyway (and paid literally thousand$ more than needed)!!

    sigh, so annoyed.

I haven't, but a bit of googling seems to show tons of complaints.
Why their still in business, who knows.

Lol no, your not. Bout two sundays ago, BravePages suspended
my church's website that someone ran. (freebie) ~ anyways, the pastor
asked if I still did hosting, and said he'd pass my email to the person
(ironicly same who worked on my PC) who was handling the site.

Come to find out that nearly everything I recommended against,
such as "unlimited space/bandwidth" hosts, who registers the domain,
and how the design should be handled ~ *BUZZZZZ* ignored.

When someone makes stupid decisions and decides you're not good enough for him/her -- that's a clever tactic for getting yourself out of future problems without offending anyone. :-)

Playing dumb...I can relate. I have seen friends and even relatives trust fools and rip-off artists in the IT field. But they trust them only if they get taken for thousands of dollars.

So now, I either charge a lot. Or I play dumb and don't touch it.

When I'm out tomarrow cleaning up a Windows PC running AOL, I'll be thinking about this thread. After almost 30 years, you would think I would have learned to keep my mouth shut and play dumb.

I'm I the only one who has begun using AOL as verb? As in, "Well you've just been a AOL'ed!" Or "I'm so AOL'ed!"

                  I have a confession...

                  I use AOL everyday

We get a free acount thru work, at one time we attempted to use it for our day to day emails, but it was determined we were losing 5% of all emails. Now I just use it for mailing lists, must get about 400 emails a day, the email client is a steaming pile of code, I use Thunderbird. I also use AOL radio a lot, 175 stations and decent sound on my headphones (drowns out my coworkers).

                  Whew, I feel better now....

PS - No way in #@$@$# would I pay for it.

Load up some Breaking Benjamin, Metallica,
Gorrilaz, Green Day, and some Tatu if you like lesbian Rusian popstars.
Jimmy Eat World has soem good songs; ditto for KoRn and Seether.

"I get it free" is not an acceptable excuse! :P

Try http://launch.yahoo.com for tunes, since you can basically customize it to your likings. (I use it at work)

I've got me launch station just about "trained" now. I hear at least 4 Led Zeppelin tunes in a 6 hour period. Ahhh.....bliss while I remove hundreds of pieces of spyware and viruses galore from joe shmoe's computer.

Gave Yahoo Radio a shot, decent selection, but the sound quality was not the greatest, I see to get the "Hi" quality sound you have to sign up for it <sigh>

Checked out Netscape Radio, very nice, but it is the same as AOL Radio, and the firewall here at work blocks it out.

I used to listen to several really nice online radio stations before the RIAA decided to throw its weight around. Now just about everything "good" is a pay service. I use an older computer at work, with not great speakers, anything to break the silence is welcomed here.
