Possibly semi-converting a wired setup into wireless? (networking)

Those two will work together with my wired Belkin router, correct? All I do is
plugin the access point to the router, and then the Adapter into one of the USB slots on my computer?

Define "noisy"; if you mean three Satilite boxes (one in same room as this),
plus my little sister having just discovered the phone.. (cordless [not the newer 2.4GhZ sort]) then yes.

So I won't get lag in video games @all? One wall between me and

I'd recommend going with the 802.11G over 802.11B simply because it's faster which will effect transfer speeds from pc to pc internally.

And you might actually think about simply replacing the belkin router with a wireless version. Less components = less things to go wrong and troubleshoot when it does.

When it comes to locating the AP, higher is better. Basements are not good, it's a radio transmitter and the signal travels much better the higher it is.

I wouldn't worry about wireless stuff. My AP is down the hall, goes through 4 walls, a microwave, a stove, then through my wireless speakers, my wireless headphones, my cell phone, my wireless mouse, wireless keyboard. Works great.

I also have a wired and wireless running perfectly together.

If you're mainly just using the wireless connection to access the internet I would give it a try. As others have said before, unless you have a REALLY fast internet connect you don't really notice a drop in speed. I did try using the wireless to do some pc to pc file sharing stuff on a 100% Windows XP Home network and it was slow as mud... even with 802.11g... I tried everything but couldn't ever get it fixed. Never found out what the problem was, eventually I just wired all the computers that needed to share files and used the wireless for laptop/palm access.

Also as many have said, you're pretty much just going to have to try it in your own house. Might wanna get it at Wal-Mart or some other place that has a more leniant return policy in case you do find that your other wireless devices or the concrete wall are messing up the connection. Good luck!

No worries there, don't have a basement. Anyways, now dad is talking about
stringing it (wire) through the attic! I'm telling you, they're worse than me when
it comes to making up their mind it seems

As for PC to PC transfer, I don't have LAN (PC to PC network?? [no idea...])
setup so I don't have to worry about that. (Though if/when we get a new printer, I want to use it via my PC!)

Still, I'm going to see if I can possibly get them to bankroll this idea after x-mas,
something to test out. If it suckx, I can always go back to wires.

If anything, after my Uncle gets back from Ukraine soon I can
call him and ask him to convience them wireless is "the best"
