    Bursting?

First of all, my ISP is Mediacom, and I have their advertised 3000/256 cable. I usually get just those speeds too, indicated by speed tests, and downloading very large zip files, huge car videos, etc...

To make a long story short, I usually get maximum speeds of 370KB/sec non-burst, from servers that can upload a lot faster than I can download. So with that in mind...

Why is it, over the past year, I've been able to consistantly burst through an entire file upwards of 20MBs at obnouxiously high speeds?

I am only able to do this from backing up a MySQL DB, and yes, it's via Dathorn.

I hate to tell you this, but the answer is so obvious
even my three cats could answer it! Its Dathorn's fault!

Lucky You. My ftp runs slow with Dathorn, even less than 1kBps.
I have no such problem with other servers.

Really? Everything else is soooooo slow compared to Dathorn for me.

          ?

I'd submit a ticket for that one...Unless it is your connection. Try the speed test at www.broadbandreports.com.

None of our servers are even remotely that slow, at the least they are all setup to handle 10Mbps though many are 100Mbps (10 can be converted to 100 at any time). If something is that slow then it is a problem with your connection or the route it is taking.

It could be because he's over seas? (I think he's over seas.. can't recall with 100% certainty)

Probably a route issue if it's slow.
I'm in the UK and don't have any problems with speed.
It's obviously quicker to connect to UK based hosting, but then there's a huge price difference

cpanel08 is nice and speedy. Tossed a file from my dedi to it @ approx 9.86 megs per sec the other day. Too bad I don't have those speeds at home.

I've never had speed issues with either of my dathorn accounts except when someone else is mucking up the server with their runaway threads and such. (you people are bad, very bad! - heheh)

Home cable (Charter) line will "burst" up to 375-385k, sustained its usually around 365k.
Hosting at Dathorn since March 2003!

My Interwebs speed on Charter Cable!

Unfortunately, it never goes over 5-6kBps. I have 128kbps link and when I access other servers it works much faster. I also noticed that loading web sites is also slower than from other servers but ftp is definitely much slower than http.

It was not that way earlier, i remember time, not so long ago when I had full 15kBps transfer to and from Dathorn server. I did submit TT to check things out and Andrew told me the same thing as he did in this thread. I guess problem is somewhere in between.

I do not complain, during the years I learned that Internet is the beast I cannot control

I am overseas too. Over 7,000 miles (11,300 km), One ocean, and 2 continents from the Dathorn server.

No problems with up- and download speeds.
