That may be something that we'll offer in the future as well. And, actually, we're going to be dropping the lowest $20/month plan with these. cPanel simply cannot be run with that amount of RAM along with everything else so there is no way that we can offer it.
Oh no...
I am actually looking forward to the $20/mth plan. As I only need the ability to install some scripts and to allow my clients to send newsletters without getting banned.
$40/mth will be an overkill for me both in the resources given and the costs.

Can you work out something for $30 perhaps?
There's really not unfortunately, the minimum RAM to actually run cPanel AND be able to host normal sites, etc. w/o having performance problems requires what we have in our $40/month plan. I was looking forward to offering a $20/month VPS w/ cPanel too but it's just not feasible at this point.

Maybe can you offer something like this?
5GB Disk Space - Just a rough estimate, somewhere between $20 and $40
80GB Bandwidth - Just a rough estimate, somewhere between $20 and $40
250Mhz Guaranteed - Same like $20, should not have a problem rite?
1000Mhz Burstable - Same like $20, should not have a problem rite?
192MB RAM Guaranteed - Same like $40, since its a problem
256MB RAM Burstable - Same like $40, since its a problem
$30/month - or maybe $25 perhaps?
Just a suggestion. Hope you can consider this. I am pretty sure that quite a number of people, including me will benefit from this lower priced plan.
I appreciate that the strength of Dathorn is that they do what they can do and don't attempt things they can't do, so if it's impossible then I'll have to accept that.
But...I too was looking forward to the $20 account, and would be happy if something less than $40 could be offered.
I'm afraid we're actually dropping the idea of offering them at this point. I've been working even more with Virtuozzo over this past week and I just do not feel comfortable offering VPS services with that software as it is right now. Instead, what we're going to try and focus on is getting our dedicated server plans rolled out. If it's bandwidth or disk space you're wanting, we will also be holding a 1 week special for existing customers very soon (which will be posted in the announcements forum).
I clearly did not intend to mislead anyone here but I honestly cannot offer these VPS services through Virtuozzo and be able to sleep at night. I sincerely apologize to those that have waited around for these services.
This thread will remain open for any questions you might have, but I'm now going to unsticky it.
My biggest concern is, having read over and over again about if your site generates *that much* revenue you should be on a dedicated server. Which is why I started the initial post. As my sites continue to grow and generate substantial revenue, I don't want to end up having a domain suspended at some point, only to be told I should be on a dedicated server.
There is loyalty in my comments. I've been with Dathorn for a few years. I went through a dozen or so hosts over the years prior to using Dathorn. I don't want to go through all that again. I'm happy to wait for a dedicated solution, but I hope that my loyalty during the wait will not be my own self-demise.

I understand your concerns entirely, I wish there was a happy medium as well. Of course, if you run into any problems, I'll do my best to try and work with you on them.
I gotta admire you Andrew and I think most users of this forums and your service do admire you. A rare gem of a host that actually cares about his business and his clients and would rather offer excellent service and support with a proven product , then decide to offer something that might make you more coin but cause grief to your clients and your level of over all service.
Hats off to you sir
Please note I am NOT a paid spokesperson for Dathorn

Grunfeld just hit that right on the nose. I've NEVER EVER EVER EVER seen
a host who cares enough that should they even doubt it a tiny bit, pull
the plug on a possible paid service that has generated such positive feedback.
This is why I've stuck it out at dathorn, even as its getting to the point
where I barely use the webhosting that I pay for

I hate to say this but I am honestly disappointed with the decision of not rolling out VPS. I have even planned my budget to take the $40/mth plan.
My situation is that I've got clients wanting to send hundreds of newsletters every month and I want to install software for some of my websites and need root access. And I have clients wanting to do reselling with their own WHM and I want to keep their accounts with me. It seems all my hopes are dashed now. Man, I really needed the VPS service.
Looks like its back to the drawing board for me.
Anyway, keep up the good work on the shared hosting.
