    Crazy thing!

I'm starting to wonder if allowing Googlebot to index my site is worth it. I have a visit just about every day.

Likewise. Mine gets savaged at times by it

I just watch out when it hits my forums. Had that crapy gigablast one hit me the other day, damn thing tried to use 50 bots (50 ips) at once to index my forums. Killed the ip range fast on that. On shared hosting that will make my site bog down quite a bit.

50 bots!! Care to share that IP range?

It was 64.62.168.64-70 (originally just a few, then suddenly the started massing me (looked like someone attackin me at first) so I just banned the C class.

If I would of had root I would of route add -host 64.62.168. 127.0.0.1 -blackhole

Yea, Googlebot has gone So-phisti-cated ( bad spellin) lately; seen it posting
new/reply messages, emailing a topic, PMing, printing a topic, and oh so more

Too bad it wasn't my site

I actually have all bots restricted from my Forums in robots.txt

I found Googlebot trying to index my forum pages with quite a bit of bandwidth being used up.

I am thinking of making several static pages with the "best of" content from the forums that Google can index so I attract the right audience.

It can use the bw, not worried about that, mainly worried about having lots of people (or bots) on there at the same time.

                  Current board stats

Our members have made a total of 21591 posts
                  We have 3058 registered members
Most users ever online was 39 on Nov 21 2004, 12:38 AM

Usually I don't have more than 12 people on the forums at once. I think that peak was from when the server that hosts the other site went down. Most people signup to post once, then never come back, I'm behind on cleaning out inactive users. (users who signed up, but never posted in more than a year)

Yeah, search engine bots can EAT bandwidth on a vB3 bbs.
