MS AntiSpyware (what a piece of sh*t)

Was helping out a friend via VNC earlier tonite. Her pc was freezing up and she didn't know what it was. Went thru all the normal checking. Found this one file that was running, taking up all the cpu. Went to look it up, and low and behold, guess what it was? Part of MS Anti Spyware. Check the attached screenie. Gee, wonder why video was freezing, and pc was running slow?

Now I know what I'm NEVER going to load. (haven't tried it yet, and now I won't) That's just pathetic.

A friend of mine made this post at the end of February. I totally agree.
Isn't it weird? When Microsoft Antispyware was in fact produced by a different company, it was lauded as a great application, full of innovative features, and up in the top 3 spyware removal solutions you can download...

So, under the Giant name, the program was critically acclaimed. But, stick that omnious Microsoft name at the front, and suddenly the program is full of problems, it has limited detection abilities (one of the supposed pluses of Giant's) and now, a hoax is spreading the Net that it detects Mozilla Firefox as Spyware. And, as if they needed prompting, Slashdot have published this hoax as a serious story (though now have a lil retraction).
What you have to bear in mind is that this software from Microsoft is still in beta stages. Whilst the beta may work perfectly well for me, it may not for other people.

I think we should all save perceptions and reviews until the software has a full release.

Just like ICQ though. Used to be a great program. Til AOL got its hands on it. Then bloatware extereme.

MS bought it, now they are changing it. We already know that MS has issues coding programs to work correctly. They don't bother to fix their own security issues in their software (yet they want to branch out into antispyware/antivirus/ect).

Don't forget the years of beta testing we've already endured: MSDOS, Windows 1.0, Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME .... oh and Internet Explorer the reason for anti-spyware to begin with!! This all at our own EXPENSE!!

The automatic update keeps telling me download this new thing...
Even when I uncheck, click close and it askes and I tell it ignore what I didn't pick
or whichever- still keeps asking  Oh well.. just another reason not 2trust MS.

Looks like i'm the only one not to judge before it gets a full release then.
            I'll keep quiet next time.

You didn't think we would be rational when it comes to Microsoft did ya?

Right now their AntiSpyware software is free but will the final release? Will there even be a final release? If they charge a single penny directly or indirectly (as in Windows price increase) there's a huge conflict of interest. They'll be making money off a problem they created through their own software and they haven't fixed yet.

Sdjl, you know the word Microsoft just gets some of us foaming at the mouth? I'll letcha borrow my pitch fork?

I wouldn't judge MS software by the first release either. I would wait until the second or third.

They don't have a good track record with their early releases of software, even when they buy the technology. They do keep at it until they get it "right" (although that's debatable; I curse as often as praise their programs).

Yep, I run Windows XP, which I think is a pretty good improvement over Windows 95, which was better than Windows 3.1 (that's been my upgrade path over the years on the GUIs, along with the ones that didn't make it).

I use OpenOffice at home rather than MS Office, but at work, they have us use MS Office.

I'm using Firefox browser more and more now, but at work have to use IE. And of course I have to have IE for web page development, as my customers all use it (about 85% of the people visiting my sites are using it, but that's down from about 92% previously ... Firefox may be able to gain a significant market share from IE).

But once you get past those applications, i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, browsers, and get into what I call specialty applications, like financial software (Money) and this new anti-spyware app, I don't think Microsoft has their act together yet. They are persistent though, and will probably get it right in the end.
