    Free Link Exchange

SiteUpTime.com, a monitoring service that offers a free monitoring option, has also started a free link exchange program at http://gotlinks.com/signup.php

It might be appropriate for some of your customers who want to build links to their sites. You have to put a link to your "Link Partners" page on the URLs home page, and then add a .php page that includes their stylesheet and code for displaying the links. You can choose the general categories of sites allowed to be shown, and can even edit out links within those general categories.

I got the messages from SiteUpTime as well & finally I've just registered & gone through the process - very easy. Now I have 700+ additional inbound links on two sites.

I'm wondering what the catch is & does it work - I've already got PR4 & 5 for the sites, maybe it'll put the sites up a notch or two - doesn't seem to be doing any harm.

As it's a free service, what does GotLinks get from this? Be interesting to hear if you have any experience of it.

They are going to charge for the service once it hits critical mass, so people joining later will need to pay for it. At least that's what one of the pages on their site says.

I'm a little dubious about these kinds of things as they may get blocked by the search engines; I know Google tries to filter out obvious attempts at SEO techniques. I did edit the links so that I'm only trading links with reasonable categories.

I did add it to four of my sites, one with a good ranking in the top 5, one with a ranking on the second page of results on Google, and two with no rankings. I'll check in a couple of weeks and see how it does.
