Virus Software

What are people using for protection against the outside world for Virus Software and firewall...??

I dumped Norton, them went to MacAfee which was ok was using the free AVG and was ok....

Looking for input for my next step

I like AVG. I've been using them for long time. As for firewall
I use zonealarm, I like it and when I do the security check
no open hole.....

my dad uses AVG I use Sophos cuz I get it for free from school.

For spyware I have Microsoft Anti-spyware program. I love it, its awesome.

I've actually ditched all software based protection for the moment.
I have a hardware firewall built into my router and i'm using a mac so don't have the need so much for anti-virus considering most viruses are written for windows based systems

I've been using Zone Alarm Suite for almost a year now and I am really quite impressed with it. One application to shut down to disable all fw and av protection and one application to start back up to turn it back on. AV updates very regularly too.

Norton Antivirus 2003 (less resources) and no need for a firewall. I do have a router, but I am DMZ'ed.

WinPatrol - to protect the registry
RegProt - to protect the registry
Spyware Blaster - anti-spyware

All of the software above is free or has a freeware version. I've used a lot of others including Norton and McAffee. They're bog the system down, and I can't help but laugh when I read other writers who describe those two as - viruses.

AVG - though the last two viruses I've seen were zero-day and I doubt any virus software would've been much use beyond the heuristic scanners.

Kerio - old version 2.1.5 - too many bells and whistles on the newer version.

I'm with Chris, when it comes to Norton ... beyond 2003 it's a pig.

Avast for AV (used to use AVG) and Sygate for FW.
Used to use ZoneAlarm but did not like it. Sygate is better MHO.
Family PC has AVG (which I need to update ) and ZoneAlarm (which I need to update )

I use Trend on my some of my PC's and I really like it a lot, no problems (unlike McAffee).
My new Dell 8400 it came with Norton so I have been using it and like that also.

For laughing at others who are using norton or mccrappy, you sure run a load of software. 2 different programs to protect the registry?

Yes, I like laughing. And you know, all of that protection, and more, and it doesn't crash or slow down the system enough to notice. Whereas with Norton - that one program alone slowed everything down and even crashed networks I've run.
