is there an UbberSmith credit card leak?

My credit card that I use to charge my dathorn service was recently jeopardized. Although I use it for other purchases, I was just wondering if it is a pattern with other members so someone from UbberSmith can look into it.

I really have no reason to believe it was through UbberSmith other than how close the two transactions were together. Most likely the two have nothing to do with one another, but just in case I wanted to get it out there.

Didn't some sort of break in happen @ some credit card issuer or osmething?
I seem to recall hearing it on the news a month or something like that back.

I am not sure, but I did not think it was for Bank of America (the credit card in question)

Is it used for anything else?

This is absolutely not a problem that is related to us in any way.

Yes, and it's happened to more than one card processor in the last year or so. As Andrew said, it's not a Dathorn processing issue. As far as I know, Dathorn doesn't even see the credit card info.

Speaking from identity theft experience, you should always keep an eye on your credit lines and their information. Get your credit report...you might be surprised.

I believe the law states that if a company gets compromised when it comes to personal data, they have to tell every single one of their customers that it happened.

If that's true, it didn't occur with me. I know of at least one bank that was compromised that I had an account with.

Yes of course it is used for many other things which I am looking into also. However this happened to me before and when it did, shortly after the information was jeopardized the card was used fraudulently. That is why I was questioning UbberSmith (not Dathorn directly) because that transaction was made (online) just prior to the fraudulent charges.

My main focus was to just get it out there so if there is a pattern and many people are experiencing the same problem, here in this community it would be something to look into. Thankfully for all of us it is not here, so I will continue to try and determine where the breach was so I can be more cautious the next time I subject myself to that exposure. Maybe by using a special credit card to monitor suspect purchases.

                    Thanks for everyone's concern though

I don't know if this is law yet. I think they are trying to make it one though? But I'm not sure.

It's certainly law over here in the UK as far as i'm aware.

I think it's a state law in a few of the states, but federally, it's not law. I do believe Congress was kicking around tougher privacy, disclosure, identity, etc. laws, but I'm sure big-business America will buy their way out of such stringent laws.

I'm guess your referring to California SB 1386 (Law) and Senate, S.1350 (just a bill).

I don't remember any of the legislative numbers, but I do remember reading a few articles in the last couple of months regarding privacy. It's finally starting to be highlighted given the rash of "lost" privacy and financial information over the last few years.
