And there lies the problem I have with dathorn. Its rigidity and tone.

Are there no provisions for context?

    Writing this
"Go to this great porn site blahblahoo.com"

Is totally different from writing this
"Operators of blahblahoo.com have been indicted for obscenity"

Now I can see where you might not want your servers directly linked to porn sites, but not allowing them to be even mentioned, regardless of context curtails what people can write about.

That is simply a misunderstanding. Your second quote would be perfectly fine of course. A lot of the tolerance depends on the context of which it is used/mentioned.

I appreciate the clarification and apologize for my misinterpretation.

It was my call to remove the adult site from the post. I am not a Dathorn employee just a customer and moderator. I felt an adult site listed in this forum was inappropriate. I stand by my decision, however if Andrew disagrees he can override me and I will abide by his direction.

I was not concerned about the prohibition on this forum as it run directly by DIS, but if the prohibition extended to reseller accounts.

I still don't know what the actual content was, if rod wants to PM like I've requested then that is fine. Beyond that this issue needs to be dropped as it is irrelevant to the initial thread's purpose.

Wow what a thread.. Been outta the loop for a bit. Usually lurk around here a few times a week to see what's up...

I have worried about scripts myself lots of times.. I keep em updated via the cpanel.. Perhaps an announcement forum when the updates are available would be nice.. Which is probably the case right now with the upgraded servers...

I was actually thinking that if a script was found to be exploited my "entire" account would be suspended. Then ALL my sites would go down. It's good to know that only the offending account would go down.. Right?

I do have a few customers.. One of which I cut off myself and they totally freaked out.
                -They made me angry
                -I turned them off...

It's a long story but I learned something from it all.. -To have terms of service similar to Dathorns about your services... To protect yourself when people get angry... Which I had none... Web design is my hobby... Hosting is a sidekick to this for my "customers" if I design the site.

I have had people ask if they could have a porno site.. Or if they could link to them or put some silly picture up.. No, I don't want any of that crap on my server... And "the datacenter" where the server is at doesn't allow it...
Yep, that's what I tell em

Not just no but hell no..

So Andrew is more polite than me...

Find anyone doing careless or evil stuff on any of my accounts and I say TURN EM OFF! Email or not...

Then when they contact me I'll tell them to find a new host.

                Can ya dig it?
Sorry I gave up blogging for web design.

Wow, quite some reaction. I see some of you have attended the same charm school as Andrew and sorry but I really cannot afford to read all the comments. Mainly approving Andrew no doubt as I can totally understand some peoples hesitance in writing their more negative view points.

Safe to say with this recent upgrade causing havoc with Horde, I am definately off as I need a person and not a robot to deal with.

Interesting pole. If 40% of my customers did NOT like the way I run my business... I would be very worried! There are a lot of "tight ships" out there and hopefully I'll find one with a bit of common curtousy.

                    Good luck

And the total of 10 votes (on the poll) = all of Dathorn's customers? I strongly doubt not. Not everyone views the forums.

According to my maths there are 22 votes and as this thread is mainly the pro-Dathorn voice (which is to be expected as this is hardly a neutral forum) I would have expected to see a lot more votes agreeing with the Dathorn "approach" as to against it. Obviously this is not the case and from your comment I can deduce you agree.

Speculating on those that have not voted is hardly the issue.

Or, speculating on those that have voted is hardly conclusive. Not everyone votes in polls that they don't see the value in. And definitely, not every customer reads the forums so your results are already faulted

Its a poll of those that read this thread. Cannot fault that. As such if taken at face value, it shows 40% disatisfaction. I certainly would not expect every customer to vote, but I would have thought the current votes do indeed show value, or are you implying we are all faulted at voting in the first place?

Sorry but I dont really see your point.

My point is that you cannot draw the conclusion that 40% of the customers (reference your above post) do not like something based on a statistically inept poll.
