    New Webhosting Biz

This summer, I will be launching my web hosting biz. The biggest pain right now is finding a name that has not been taken :-( I made a huge list of potential names and all have already been used. Can anyone offer some suggestions on web hosting names? If anyone comes up with something REALLY GOOD, that person will get 1 year of complimentary service!!

For the next few months, it's all sweat work of making the web site. The initial site will include a 60 page support library! The support library is by far the most difficult part. I've noticed almost no hosting companies has a support library.

To get this going, I'm starting out local. With a $3000.00 startup budget, I will be relying on local advertising and trade shows to gain exposer. DFW area is a big place with lots of trade shows. Working at DFW airport will help me alot too :-) For the initial accounts, I will just use resellers while I learn how to use a dedicated server.

As far a pricing goes, I will price fairly and accordingly. A price war will just sink my budget in a hurry and attract a bunch of hungry dogs that don't want to pay their bills LOL! I've seen many make this mistake on WHT.

If all goes well for the 1st year, I will consider adding another $2000.00 to this investment. Of course, with such a tight market, I must wait a few years before seeing some return on my investment. In the end, I think I can wing it inspite of all the negative publicity out there.

glad you're going to do it. I have no names. I would say though, you should find a niche and go for that, for example offer ruby on rails or php 5 or something else so you can at least have a big up via the niche.

      Hosting Plans

Reading these plans below, would you consider purchasing services after taking price and offerings into consideration.

My plan matrix is going to be rather simple:

      *Plan A: 500 MB; 10 GB Bandwidth - $5.00 / Month
      *Plan B: 1 GB Disk 20 GB Bandwidth - $10.00 / Month
      *Plan C: 1.5 GB Disk 30 GB Bandwidth - $15.00 / Month
      *Plan D: 2 GB Disk 40 GB Bandwidth - $20.00 / Month
*Custom Plans: Clients can build their own hosting plans!!
      *E-Mail Only: $36.00 / year
      *Single Page + E-mail: $42.00 / year (20 MB Disk + 1 GB bandwidth)
*3rd Party Script Install and Support $60.00 per hour billed at minimum of $15.00 (Only If I Qualify).
      *CD/DVD ROM Site Backup - $25.00
*60 Page Support Library - FREE Open To Public
      *Perlfect Search - FREE INSTALL

For the first 100 clients, there will be a 30% discount off regular prices with prepaid one year commitment. The first 25 clients will get 2 years of service with only a prepaid one year committment.

Support will include e-mail only 24 hrs a day. Email support will be contracted out at certain times. Phone support will be by appointment only. Clients will be able to select available call back times online and they will be contacted. I have several guys lined up to make a few bucks should the calender get overbooked. 24 hr/ 365 phone support simply is not feasible at the prices I'm offering. So, I like to say rather than take the middle ground with e-mail only, I'll take the higher ground by at least having limited but at least good phone support.

I'll be lossing that $3000.00 during the first year but I consider that an investment :-)
