    10/12/07 - cpanel51 Upgrade

Whats the reason for the hardware upgrade? We just had one not too long ago. Also, what are the specs of the new hardware.

    Thanks,
    Andy

Just updated this thread in our FAQ in regards to the server specs: http://forums.dathorn.com/showthread.php?t=2638

We'll be upgrading all servers quite regularly (roughly every 2-3 years). I agree that this one is being upgraded a bit early, and normally we would not be doing this. cpanel51 has only been going on roughly 14 months. These upgrades are based on overall performance and usage as well as the potential for future problems.

I can access WHM on cpanel63.gzo.com fine, but not all my accounts show up there yet. Should they? Or do they appear as things are transferred over?

Your accounts will show up as they are transfered to the new server. They won't ALL show up right now as the transfers are still in progress.

I have a question on custom name servers ...

I have "ns1.companyname.com" and "ns2.companyname.com" as custom name servers, and all my customers are using them. I logged into my registrar reseller account and changed the IP addresses on those to the new IP addresses (74.86.90.184 and 75.126.238.96 respectively).

          I'm set to go right?

I'm a bit confused because info.php is still showing "cpanel51" as the server name, but when I use Putty to go into SSH, I do get a "cpanel63" prompt. (I also have a private IP address, so pinging the site doesn't help ... I get the custom IP address back.)

I resolved the question of how to determine which version you are seeing in your browser; just use the server name format (i.e., "cpanel63.gzo.com/~username" ) to see if the content is the same.

You are correct on the DNS. It would probably be a good idea to submit a ticket and have us setup the A records for your custom DNS addresses as well. Just include the DNS addresses and the IP that you assigned to each and we can take care of it.

I just got the announcement for the cpanel53 upgrade. It appears that it is going to the same server thst cpanel 51 did which is cpanel63.

Am I correct that you are consolidating servers? If so, how many boxes are you putting on each of the new ones? Did a quick search and didn't see it listed, but I might have missed a previous discussion of it.

                Thanks!

Yes, some of them are being consolidated. We've been doing this for quite a while now as we've moved on to much more powerful hardware. At most we'll just be putting two old ones together; it just depends on the particular servers involved. The new servers won't have any problems at all handling it. We're still very much focused on performance.
