I suspect before you were born I was dabbling in QuickBASIC (one of the first compiled BASIC variants), and then converted my shareware programs into C ... file size really was much smaller, but the program execution really didn't seem faster, even on the Heavy Metal system I had then ... a 16mhz 386 with hundreds of dollars of RAM (I think you could cram up to 4mb in dipps or dimms on the thing with a full size MicroChannel expansion card).

Now, its just HTML and CSS. Funny that I'm back to interpreted languages now, huh?

That is kinda funny, my dad once programmed in punch cards at purdue (if that could be considered programming).

I made the game of clue in pascal once with some friends, lots of ASCII art to design the levels.

Well you did say know, with no reference to how well, so I voted all of the above. Only used ASP a couple of times. I could match you list with even a longer list of ones I don't use much or at all anymore.

                  Yeah ... tax deductions!

I actually showed a profit this year, but judiciously leaving out some deductions to my hosting / affilliate income that I could have taken (home office deduction, a portion of my ISP fee, etc.) I did include some software and books, but certainly not everything I could earn.

The old is still here with us.

                      C O B O L is still very much used today.

Very few "young guys" know COBOL.

That will leave a big hole in the future as we "old guys" retire. The COBOL based systems will not retire with us - who is going to maintain them?
The COBOL based systems will not all be converted/replaced by the newest wiz-bang lanquages. What will we do? What will we do?

This years marks my 40th year of writting code. (That's NOT a typo)

Would you buy a used web site from this guy?

                        That is just........*hesitates* hmmm....never mind
I know a dude in his mid '70s learning C++
Or so he claims he's in his mid '70s

                        As for me, I ended up getting the Standard C++ Bible;
                        the Java book was OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOld....

HINTS WHY JAVA BOOK WAS OLD:
                        - 'Netscape2 & HotJava ALPHA are only Java-supporting Browsers'
                        - 'The JDK is still in BETA' (its now 1.4.2_04 and called 'SDK')
                        - So beat up, I thought it'd fall apart just OPENING IT!

                          Problem with Poll

There's a problem with the poll, you can only make a single choice selection.

I had to choose "ALL" even though I personally know very little about ASP, although I have made modifications to existing ASP code when necessary.

I don't really consider html/css programming either. Well maybe CSS as a stretch, but HTML no way.
