Compared to Geocities, I must say

Main problem with available forums is they use their own user authentication so it is hart to integrate them with the site which is based on it's own user management. I hate the most when I am registered on site and then I have to register on forum separately couse they are not related to each other.

At work I integrated Snitz Forums with a help-desk application we bought. It was a major pain in the butt because my experience with VBscript/ASP is lacking to say the least. I ended up stripping out the registration/profile modification features from the Snitz forums and using a SQL trigger to sychronize the two account databases when the users made changes to their profile on the help desk side. - I also had to remove the password encryption from Snitz, as the help-desks password reset fucntion would email out the password to users instead of resetting the password. I didn't want to rewrite the password reset function in the helpdesk, as (a) upgrading to a new version would have been hell with such heavy modifcations to the code. and (b) It would have been a pain considering my lack of VBscript knowledge.

I looked for a php helpdesk solution but there were none that even came close to the commercial package we bought.

If you need to get a community site up and running quickly, then PHP-Nuke and PostNuke, Mambo - etc are fine.

I've used PostNuke for a while, it's easy, relatively safe and has lots of modules to make us non-coding retards look smart.

The main problem with the "Nuke families" is that you can spot them a mile away. Mambo looks nicer but isn't without it's own problems.

I would bet that probably about half of those who voted in the poll above and said they make the their own custom CMS are full of crap. It's a massive under-taking.

Not meaning to be offensive or start an argument, but it's layout looks the same as the "nuke-family" of CMS's but it's not - or it's a reeeally modified version.

Curious, I had never thought of it that way. If I PM you a test url this weekend would you tell me if it looks nuke-ish because I definitely handwrote the whole CMS.
