CMS portals, you have a CHOICE!

i just wanted to make an awareness thread about this because i see so many people keep using nuke like nothing is wrong with it.

there are other choices, other communities, and better scripts, that are more secure run better, easier to theme for, as well as many themes for other portals for download etc etc etc.

i want to start off by showing u a site that is great called

it recomends a large amount of sites you can try ureself using the admin section and whatnot to see if its for you.

if you want a larger list of CMS/portals here is a link http://www.cmsmatrix.org/
it has A LOT of features and compairisons telling a lot about certain scripts.

i would also then like u to take a look at a few of my favorites
Welcome to the official development and support site of PHPFusion CMS. PHPFusion is an award-winning open source content management system.

    and
MamboServer is a project that aims to provide insightful hosting comparisons, reviews and guides to help webmasters.

those two are really good... im using mambo server right now cause its community is huge, many themes and mods for download for free, the forums are huge and friendly very easy help, development is very often, and strong on security and patches. one of the best fansites can be found here: www.mamboportal.com

i would also like to say that mambo is really really easy to theme for, making your own theme is just so easy, and they have a type of source forge too, www.mamboforge.net for new announcements and scripts etc.

php-fusion was a great CMS because its extreamly fast. some of you heard of pubBB forums, its my favorite forums, but very little know about it, i would say php fusion is fast as phpbb and thats really fast! its a CMS portal.
its also extreamly easy to administer. its SO EASY its worth a try! i say this because its not on any of those other sites i dont think. (unless i missed it).

but im basically saying you have a choice, you dont have to choose phpnuke, and i would strongly suggest not using it for many reasons. there is not one reason why you cant use something else. remember u have a choice, some of these are easier than nuke from what u might think. nuke sites are for lazy people is what i say.

    Great post Mo2!

When your reviewing those CMS remember to look for simplicity. If it appears complex the underlining code is probaby even worse. Keep it super simple and you'll have fewer problems. Just my two cents.

    [ADDED]

Here a link to a site that reviews CMS: http://www.cmsinfo.org/

i have talked to a lot of people and it seems the simplest of the portals are...

      php-fusion
      e107
      xoops
      mambo

if people are wondering what to try first, and are new and want something easy.

If you're using phpBB, I think that ezPortal is a simple, easy-to-mod portal - not a full-blown CMS, but enough for my needs.

BTW, the link to my site below may not work because Cpanel13 is down with no ETA yet when it will be up.

Thanks for the post, MindlessOath. Now I have a nice cms, that is easy to use, easy to backup, ect. Still working on setting it up, and such.

url for my site for it is.

Hoping to use it for a place where I can post my fixes for pc problems, ect. (Since I work on pcs all day at work, it would be an easy place to store my fixes & make them public/helpfull to all)

Yah, I come up with a ton of hard to find fixes. I gotta put up the About:Blank fix for xp, thats a real sought after fix. I need to add to the "powered by" section. Add my paypal link, and hopefully someone who gets help there will donate to me. Never hurts to hope.

Thought I would post this here because it's really a good way to test scripts.

I recently update to PHP 4.3.8 but I forgot to update Zend Optimizer. I use phpMyAdmin alot and it's not the fastest script around. However when Zend Optimizer isn't working it's painfully slow! Not knowing it was the Optimizer I got so fed up I went looking for a replacement. Tried a whole lot of scripts and even some having nothing to do with database administration. I just thought they looked interesting. I found a few that were pretty quick. But... darn if they didn't get quicker when I fixed that Zend Optimizer!

So next time your looking for a script try turn off the Zend Optimizer it will be an enlightening experience. Beware: I crashed my Apache server and MySQL DB more than once during testing. Yeah some scripts were that bad without the Optimizer! I'm sure some would have actually timeout if I had the defualt limits in place. I'll remember to fix those limits next time I go looking for a script.

Here's four scripts I found that deserve an honorable mention:

                  eSKUel
                  WordPress
                  ackerTodo
                  WizMySQLAdmin

Wordpress and ackerTodo aren't without bugs but they're easily fixed. eSKUel isn't exactly a phpMyAdmin replacement but I usually only need to work with tables. WizMySQLAdmin is just one file and and surprisingly fast even without the Optimizer. WizMySQLAdmin could replace phpMyAdmin at least for me.

                  Good Luck in your search.
