I switched to Firefox about a week ago after having tested a few browsers over time but finding IE rendered faster (despite criticisms of other, my own testing substatiated that), however, this latest version seems to render just as fast as IE so that is no longer an issue. I've also moved to ADSL a month ago so that has helped as well.

What do I like about Firefox?
    * Tabbed browsing - yeah but its not a biggy. You could get that in IE with Crazy Browser.
    * Mouse gestures - This is the big one for me. With the Extension installed it is simply brilliant. I never have to right click an wait for a menu, or mouse to the top left icon, just to go back a page. Now it is just a right click and slide left and I'm back. Brilliant. I know Opera has had this for some time, but you either need to pay, or put up with the advertising with Opera.
    * Adblock - this is just so useful that I wonder how I ever browsed without it. I no longer have to put up with those flashing banners anymore. As I find them I just add a suitably wildcarded filter to adblock and it is bye-bye ads. Love it.
    * Privacy - I like all the options for easily clearing stuff out as well as setting up exceptions. I like to regularly clear out my cookies but there are a few I like to keep. It's good to be able to exclude these from the clearance. I also found that IE keeps its own database of visited sites beyond what shows in the cache. You can delete all your IE5.content files but if index.dat remains it is possible to spot old data from months ago.
    * Bookmark Sorting - one feature of IE that I really liked is that it only displayed recently and regularly visited favourites which reduced the onscreen clutter. FF doesn't do this yet, but at least with the Bookmark Sort extension, it is possible to sort the bookmarks so that most recently visited ones rise to the top.
    * Mozex allows me to view pagesouce code in my editor of choice (HTML-Kit). I know it takes longer than the internal viewer, but I still prefer the control over the syntax highlighting in HK .
    * Lauchy has helped establish good linkage with my own choice of email clients (Pegasus), office applications (OpenOffice), and media players.
    * Themes - I like the theme implementations and have opted for Qute which I find very easy to use.

So lots to like, only a niggle or two (bookmark closure, not as much status bar info), and another step further away from M$. I'm ready to jump to Linux, just waiting to clear some time for the initial learning curve.

      Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1

Works on about 98% of sites I use. One of my distributors sites' does not support Mozilla. Mambo "builtin" html editor (htmlarea2) does not fully function. Other than that, it has features and functionality that better IE.

Have used Mozilla for over 2 years now, although only really switched over about 6 months ago. I will not go back.

I love Firefox (moz), so standards compliant, probably the most. Everything that is broken in Firefox is almost always because of bad markup on the coders end. IE renders stuff its not suppose to which makes firefox look bad sometimes, but I prefer to know how my code will look in all browsers, not just IE and have it break when its not valid. My two cents.

btw, anyone tried the web developer extension for FireFox, amazing.

If you do markup its a must have.

It's not only markup that it helps you find the bugs in. I found a bug in dirname() function because of FF.

On Windows dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']) will return "\" instead of "/" when $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] equals something like "/index.php". That's a real portability problem. Wouldn't have known it if FF hadn't refused to load a URL with a "\" in it.

I've been using FF exclusively for a an entire week now. Only crashed it once on a bad theme. One crash! I start FF up about 6 in the morning and I use the same instant usually all day. Like to see someone try that with IE. It even survives Java crashing just close tab and move on.

            101 things Mozilla can do...

...that IE cannot at the link below. Most, if not all, of these are true for Firefox et al. I'll 2nd the vote for "block images from this server."

            Surfeth ye yonder:

...from a Mozilla user since 0.9 or so. (When it was Navigator minus the AOL parts). I use IE for WindowsUpdate, and that's about it. IIRC, Mozilla installed JUST FINE on Win95, up until Moz v1.4 or so! Handy for those fossil PCs in use at the kids' school.

Still only the one crash. I still have FF running all day. Windows 98 hasn't crashed since I started using FF either. I think I should give the Pope a call because that has to be a miracle.

Installed the Tabbrowser Extension that is an extremely cool extension.

Hey guys; I happened to be surfing the Mozilla site,
and I'm not sure if its new ~ but I did take notice of "Mozilla Calendar".

Its awesome, and its intergrated; your pick. Mozilla Suite,
FireFox, or the good ol' buddy Thunderbird. Awesome.

Thunderbird is a free email application that’s easy to set up and customize - and it’s loaded with great features!

                * I believe they are making another project (same thing)
that is a stand-alone application, not requiring anything else.

I'm off to try it out; though
why I'd need it, I have no clue...

I update FF to 1.0PR today using a zip and it surprisingly trouble free. I did have two extension for which I had to find updates. Still compared to some of IE updates this was a breeze especially compared to the one that made me move to FF in the first place.

I've had only a couple crashes so far from FF and I can definitely live with that. FF 1.0PR seems to be a bit faster when opening HTML files (from harddrive) something I do a lot.

Chris, I had no crash on that picture with either FF 9.3 or 1.0PR. Maybe it is OS? I'm using Windows 98.

Some good extentions for web design.
I personally like the Google PR + Web Developer ones.
