    Overselling Enabled Host Plans

I've come up with the following plans below that we may be willing to offer with overselling enabled. I'd like to have some opinions as to whether or not these would be desired (clearly they would for larger sites/resellers).

    2GB Disk Space
    30GB Bandwidth
    50 Domains
    $30/month

    3GB Disk Space
    45GB Bandwidth
    100 Domains
    $45/month

    4GB Disk Space
    60GB Bandwidth
    150 Domains
    $60/month

    6GB Disk Space
    90GB Bandwidth
    250 Domains
    $90/month

Yes they are very desirable. Will they have there own server? (That's my polite way of saying "not in my backyard!" )

That has not been decided yet.

Not for me, thanks.... however I would certainly pay for more space /traffic on my account if I went over, although I suspect it might be a billing/monitoring nightmare ......

          Cheers,

With any overselling plan you're paying for a lot more than just bandwidth and disk space as you can almost guarantee that every bit of the account will be used with as many domains as possible - this can be a huge burden on a server (even at the 50 domain minimum).

              Andrew,

I have a question that I'm not quite sure of the answer to.

              Say I go with:
              2GB Disk Space
              30GB Bandwidth
              50 Domains
              $30/month

And I have 50 clients, all which I've "allocated" 1GB of bandwidth.

For a few months they all only use a approx 100mb each, so by the end of the month, my account has used 0.1 * 50 = 5gb of bandwidth.

What happens if say 40 of my 50 clients then use 1GB in a month, meaning that my account will have used 40+gb in a month (when my limit is 30)?

Do I get charged for overage, or does cpanel/whm stop this from happening and limit the total usage to 30gb?

              Cheers,

              James

This does not affect anything that we currently offer at all.

That brings up a good point that I had not thought of. WHM will only suspend individual accounts once they reach their bandwidth, so you would be able to use all of the 40GB as in the example. This also makes it difficult for us to keep tabs on everyone's bandwidth usage as we would now have to go and check each account - which is something that we've been trying to avoid by not offering overselling.

I was thinking more that the headaches it might give you will affect what you currently offer by taking up your precious time.

We've decided to go ahead and NOT offer these plans. Instead, we are going to focus more on offer some dedicated servers for those that need them in the near future.

I'm glad the dedi option is being considered. It is very comforting to know that if I ever outgrow the current structure, I won't be forced to pack the bags.

Will a semi-dedi option be considered as well?

This has been discussed before, we have no desire to offer a semi-dedicated solution, commonly referred to as a VDS or VPS.

Will the dedicated servers be managed by you guys in terms of software upgrades/patching, etc?
