ssl settings on outlook

I am using IMAP on Outlook. It takes forever to send/receive on my account, and often times out. I was wondering if I had all my settings correct. I know the username and password work, because sometimes Outlook does send/receive correctly. I was wondering if I should "Log on Using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)"? And whether I should use an SSL encrypted connection for IMAP or SMTP? Also, should I use 993 and 25 as the server port numbers for IMAP and SMTP respectively? Is there anything else I should make sure to check?
