Mailman Spam - Alternative 2-Way Scripts?

I use Mailman for some very small two way email lists ... family and friends sharing receipes, that sort of thing. It works well, but doesn't have automatic spam processing. Any message to the list email address from a non-member is held for admin approval ... and I'm getting dozens per day now. I'd like a list with more configuration options to be able to automatically discard messages from non-list members. (There is a hack for Mailman that does this, but it requires root access, which we obviously don't have.)

I looked at phpList, but it looks to me like it is a one-way, or newsletter style list. I need a two way list. Anyone know of one?
