Kerry gave up before the total ballots were counted, and Bush declared victory last night, once again before total ballots were counted.
And what we have now, is a country that is divided. Almost half and half.

The common ground between our divide is the problem we face as nation. We either come together to solve these problems or these problems may force their own solutions on us.
We are at war and at the same time facing financial ruin. Wars are won and lost because of logistics. Right now our supply lines are dependent on Asia and Europe buying our US Treasury notes. Niether Asia or Europe are exactly in in favor of our war in Iraq. This is a every bad position to be in for any nation.
Kerry has conceded, Bush has won re-election. Do we come together to save our nation for the next generation? Or do we destroy this nation because we can not put aside our differences? I prefer the former and will make my opinion known to my representatives but my guns are clean and loaded for the latter because my family comes first, second and last.

Very true there Buddha; alot of people I've talked to online say that
they're fearful. Why? Because if we continue elections and what not
as this has been going on, such hateful attitudes towards another...
Its only a matter of time before civil war will erupt

For the first time in a long time a candidate has won more than 50% of the votes cast to be President. To say we are hopelessly divided because of that is just silly. A wide plurality of states voted to re-elect Bush, and the popular vote of 3.5 million more than his challenger is a 2 to 3 point margin. Only in tremendous landslides, like President Reagan had, do you see larger margins.
There are always ballots not counted when a winner is declared. If Mr. A is ahead by 10,000, and there are 5,000 ballots outstanding, do you need to count them to know that Mr. A has won?
John Kerry stated that was the reason he conceded. There was no possible way that he could win Ohio, and without Ohio, he couldn't win the Presidency. With his concession speech, he returned us to the long-standing tradition in this country of fighting hard, then focusing on the most important task, remembering that the country comes first. This is a tradition that was broken only once, in 2000, due to a very close race. However, even then, it was statistically impossible for a recount to overturn the initial count. It is to Kerry's credit that he did what he did today. He was a statesman. We are lucky to have had him as a candidate. God bless John Kerry.
We are not hopelessly divided ... this is NORMAL. If the Republicans beat the Democrats by 40 points, it would be a one-party system. I don't think we want that. By the next cycle, the Democrats will be back with a message that more closely matches the sentiments of the majority, so they have a chance to regain power. That's the way the system works.
This election was actually much further apart than the 2000 election, and with Bush winning the popular vote by 3million people I'm pretty sure he's good to go.
Saw this in an email from CNN/Money this morning, I would show it to my co-workers, but they might hit me... ironic given what good advice it is.

The number of people who think the world has just ended is amazing. Grow Up. Get Over It. Move On. It was an election. South Park will still be funny. Jon Stewart will still be number one in Fake News. Housewives will remain desperate. Keep your sense of humor for heaven's sake... for all of our sakes. Laughter can change more than you imagine. Look at the radical Islamists...look over at the far Christian right....and yes, take a gander over on the agnostic far left. Look at any extreme for that matter. The one constant is nobody is laughing in any of those quarters. They should. They probably won't though. People who laugh have lower blood pressure....and hey, the bottom line is: the system worked.
Let's walk together to that shining city on the hill ...
I like to think myself as "hopefully conservative" in my outlook for the future. Admittedly I have never embrace an optimistic outlook. I plan for the worse and hope for the best. As for the glass being either half full or half empty, well ... my boy Bush did win. Yeehaw!! However I would just rather walk with the other half of America to that shining city on the hill then drag them kicking and screaming.
To come together doesn't mean you give up your values or concede to the values of the others, it just means you show respect for the values of others. Doesn't every citizen deserve respect? You may continue to disagree but you just do it respectfully. I think such respect has been missing for some time not only in our government but among the people. I think here at Dathorn we've been doing rather well showing each other the respect we deserve. I hope it continues.

They do deserve respect, but often times alot of people do not get it.
Some people refuse it based on age, looks, color, experience, etc.

If you guys up there in Canada could export less cold air this winter that would help keep our economies going. I have no idea why people are so down on Global Warming could be the one thing that saves the economy!
