Another thought just occurred to me...Since we will be root of our partition, we may have the problem Andrew now has...suspending offending accounts.

I noticed Virtuozzo has some monitoring tools. Will we have access to them? Are they sufficient to determine which accounts are causing a problem on our portion of the VPS?

Does the Root version of WHM have any type of resource control and monitoring?

Basically, I'm curious if anything beyond TOP (or other standard tools etc) is offered with these management packages

There really are no other tools to help you with this. All Virtuozzo will do is show you the same basic info that TOP and PS can show you.

          tomcat? Java?

          Hi Andrew,

This is more of a thought, any primary reason I would get a VPS would be to host/run JSP apps either through tomcat or some other less-intensive app. Would you

          a) have any issues with this?
          b) think this is a stupid idea given the specs?
          c) be perfectly fine?

I wouldn't consider jboss or some other high cpu and memory use app server, probably just tomcat.

In general Java tends to use more resources than, for instance, PHP. But this can also depend greatly upon what is being run and how it's being used. It's entirely up to you, if you know what you are doing it shouldn't be an issue. But beginners may run into some performance problems.

What's the procedure to order a VPS when they're available if I'm a current customer of Dathorn?

There's no way to migrate from one plan to another? For example, I have a Bussiness reseller plan, and if I order a Basic VPS (currently 0.25 lower than the Bussiness plan), I will pay twice? It's beginning of the month and maybe my card was already charged for the Bussiness plan for this month.

You will be able to order them via our website just like the regular hosting plans. Note that they are listed on the order forms already, but do not order them until the actual VPS page is available on our website. We've already had some trouble with that.

We probably will not be offering any sort of special move pricing to the VPS services. We've had quite a bit of interest in them already and only about 15 will be available initially.

Following the first 15 there will be another 15 available within a couple days. We'll likely take up to 30 initial orders to cover both sets. This is the first time that we are offering this and we want to make sure it is a success.

Also, regarding support on these VPS plans, we've decided to change it. No longer will an hour of admin time be included. Our support will cover everything on the base VPS (cPanel, WHM, Exim, etc.). If any issues arise with them they will be supported. However, our support will become limited once custom modifications are done to the system. One thing we will still support is the custom setup of PHP - but only to the options and extensions available from cPanel.

So, basically, if you leave the VPS as is and just use it for hosting, you will have no problem getting from support for us. But if you custom compile Apache or something like that, support may be limited depending on the issue.

                            Andrew:

A friend told me that Virtuozzo is not completely compatible with cPanel or something like that. That means that if I reset my VPS I will only get a plain Linux installation, right?

I know how to install cPanel if that's the case, and I know that the cPanel licensing is IP based so there will no be much trouble with that.. I think that the problem will be the installation of CPSkins.com skins and autoinstallers...

Also, I know that resetting the VPS is under customer's responsability... but, you have any toughts or comments about this?

I'm not sure if compatible is the right word, but you are correct in that reseting a VPS via the Virutozzo Power Panel will just give you a basic linux installation. We have our own scripts that set these systems up completely with cPanel, etc. We are going to charge a one time fee of $10 for a full reinstall by us.

The CPSkins stuff can easily just be copied to your VPS by us.

Ok, then, If I reset my VPS, install and configure cPanel by myself... you can copy the CPSkins stuff without charge or will be still 10.00 to do that?

Basically, I want the VPS to "play" with it, but I will no bother you if problems arise... don't worry
