    E-neighborhood

I'm thinking about setting up a private message board only for my surrounding neighborhood in southwest Las Vegas.

Has anyone here done this or know of similar efforts? Any reports of specific problems, suggestions, privacy concerns, etc.?

What forums would you suggest I include other than:

    Welcome to our E-Neighborhood
    Introduce Yourself
    Questions, Suggestions, Complaints
    Events, Activities, and Projects
    Activity Partners Wanted
    For Sale
    Services Available
    Wanted

i have seen it done before with some success. is the neighborhood generally young and computer literate?

i would add a forum for "discussing community news"

Successful web communities are usually centered around common interests rather than geographical locations, but if enough of your neighbors are interested, this could work.

I would suggest less, rather than more, forums. As activity increases, you can break off threads to their own forums. A busy "Main Forum" is better than 10 forums with 1 or 2 messages per day.

You also might consider giving any local associations or groups (Elks, Rotary Club, PTA, Humane Society, etc.) their own forum to drive traffic to your site.

Possibly also go around to local businesses,
inform them of these forums, and let them come
and make "SPECIAL SALES" sort of advertisment posts, etc.

Also put adverts for it in the paper, so that
the local businesses can see its best to meantion
themselves on it (and tell customers about it!)...

Thanks for the advice, however, the local community for this message board has little commercial activity. I live on the southwest suburban fringe of the Las Vegas valley. The intent of the message board is simply to provide a forum for neighbors to get to know each other, share activities, etc.

I haven't seeded the message board yet but here's what it looks like so far:
