Reverse DNS

My client obtained broadband connection and they installer mail server. They asked me to set MX record to point to their serer.

I did this:

mail.domain.com A 232.33.45.65
domain.com MX 10 mail.domain.com


Now it works, but they asked me to set Reverse DNS for this IP. How to do this?

I don;t think you can. The dns for his IP would be through his ISP.

I guess his ISP should set it, but I am not certain. I wanted to check it out before I respond.

This is something that would be set by the company that supplies the IP#.

I do have a couple of things to point out though.

Unless they are paying for that IP# it is dynamic and the ISP can change it at will.

My ISP (also a cable provider) has strict rules against running a server of any sort on their network unless you're on their business plan.

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers or anything, just pointing out some possible pitfalls that you may encounter.

Dan thanks for clarification.

Sure, they have static IP and they are allowed to do whatewer they want with it, unless it is illegal.

So, I will instruct them to contact their ISP which rovided IP to provide reverse DNS.
