need help from zoneedit.com users. setup domain to use 2 diff. servers.

    in reference to this link

    let domain = mydomain.com

    goals:
-have "www.mydomain.com/" or "mydomain.com/" traffic (only) go to serverB, while rest of traffic go to serverA (ie. "subdomains*.mydomain.com/")

-have all emails to mydomain.com use MX of serverA (if thats whats it called)

some questions prolly later to come if the above can be setup. any help/pointers are greatly appreciated. TIA.

addition: i have NS1.mydomain.com and NS2.mydomain.com going to the NS dathorn servers

Just change A and CNAME for wanted subdomains and MX records to point to other server. You must do it in Zone editor (WHM panel). If you do not have it in options ask Dathorn admins to allow you access.

      ?

i dont think were on the same level pedja--i know i can do that using WHM. but i'm trying to use zoneedit.com so that if serverA goes down, i can direct traffic to serverB.

zoneedit does DNS outsourcing so you need to use their name servers, not dathorn's. When you setup the account it should say "change your name servers to..."

Then when your account is setup you can make quick changes to make your domains point to different servers if one goes down.

k...with that said above--my custom branded NS are being used by my clients as well. what do i need to do in zoneedit.com so that these changes would be transparent to my clients (they dont have to change anything; leave everything as NS1.mydomain.com and NS2.mydomain.com)???

You would have to purchase custom name servers from them. Then you would have to switch your name servers to their new IP after setting up everyone's accounts at zoneedit.

For the custom name server I think you have to purchase a reseller account through them. I think your looking at about $400.

oh geez---thats mucho money. so going to "Advanced Editor for mydomain.com / Nameservers (NS)" under the EDIT ZONE in zoneedit.com, wont do the trick?

                The short answer: No.

The long answer: I believe that is for setting up your own slave name servers. A slave name server takes the info from the main name server. As far as I know a cPanel server can not be a slave server unless may be it was a dedicated server but even then I'm not sure.

                  Another Solution

I dont know if URLS are allowed but I will post it for now and Andrew can edit this message later. Use the free service DNSEXIT DNSEXIT I have over 300 domains with them and they handle DNS for you and make everything so much simpler for you. Plus if you have to make any changes to your IPs or alias etc the changes will happen within 5 to 20 minutes not 24 to 48 hours. And the basic service is completly free of charge !!!
