Way to turn off/modify executable attachment filtering?

Just setup a client with web/email for their domain.

It turns out they are used to using Outlook Express and sending links to files on their internal server to each other so they can click and modify the original files more easily.

When they send an email from Outlook Express, they click add attachment, then they click the "Make shortcut to this file" box in the attachment window. This creates a .lnk file which is emailed instead of the original one.

Their previous email provider didn't have a problem with this and I had not noticed Dathorn blocking these until they called me today.

If you try to send an email with a .lnk file you get back a failure message containing the following:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

    email@domain.com
This message has been rejected because it has
a potentially executable attachment "File name.lnk"
This form of attachment has been used by
    recent viruses or other malware.
If you meant to send this file then please
package it up as a zip file and resend it.
Is there any way to disable this blocking by email address or by domain? I understand fully well why it is setup this way, but virus protection for this customer is being addressed by implementing Postini which we resell. That service will be blocking spam and viruses for their domain before it ever reaches Dathorn's server.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure, but I'm wondering as well; I can't send a .EXE file

I would hazard a guess that these options are all configurable by the root login for the server.
Whether Andrew will change these settings server wide or for a certain user is another matter though.

Submit a support ticket and find out
