    Email reliability question.

I see the Alerta uptime reports and they roughly come out to less than ten hours per year that my website(s) are down. But what happens to the email tied to these domains? Do emails sent or received during those less than ten hours vanish into the ether? Or do they just stack up on the sending / receiving server waiting for the recipient / sending server to become available again?

    Thanks,
    Julian

This is a good question. One I've always wondered about too.

Usually (it's a configuration issue), SMTP relays are configure to send messages, or resend messages to receiving SMTP relays as necessary until the messages go go through. Usually, resends are attempted for 5 days.
