    Sorbs And Spews

I am getting about 5 emails bouncing a day. They are supposed to be going to my clients but are getting bounced by the Sorbs.net list which uses the Spews listings. So Im having to go through Yahoo to get to my clients. I've already lost several hosting clients because their forwards stopped working due to the same issue. Is anyone else having problems with their emails or their clients emails bouncing due to these lists?

I am not very sure, but does sorbs.net use the spews list. From what I could gather, spews db is not being used that much these days. If the IP is listed in the sorbs db, I think you should contact Andrew thru a support ticket.

We refuse to cooperate with sorbs. If you're up for an interesting read, I highly suggest you go check out their website. They are the first blacklist that I've heard of where you have to pay a "fine" to get removed. As I've told this individual, the best way to work on this is to have the customers whose e-mail service is using this blacklist, to call and complain endlessly.

Large companies/ websites such as godaddy.com are using these lists to filter out spam. If my IP is on their list its only a matter of time before others on dathorn are affected. I don't send spam but someone using dathorn does so I get shut out.

According to what I have read online Sorbs is just an outlet for the spews list.

Asking me to contact each of my clients through another email account to tell them to complain about my bounced emails is like asking you to email each one of your clients to tell them you are changing the way you do billing.

            from SORBS:
Delisting if the netblock is expanded, delisting is only performed when the spammer is nolonger using the address space, in which case the netblock will be reduced down to the affected IPs free of charge. The effected IPs (the ones used to send the spam) will only be delisted when US$50 is donated to a SORBS nominated charity or good cause. The charities and good causes SORBS approves will not have any connection with any member of the SORBS administrators either past or present.
Well at least they don't come around and bust up your shop once a week.

I understand that, but if you want action then it needs to be done. Putting up with something like this from a service that someone is paying for is intolerable. The only weight to be thrown around here is on the part of GoDaddy, we can't really do anything.

Godaddy is gettin just about as bad. When they block/ban an ip for spam (or what they consider spam) they block the entire C class. One of our 3 C class ranges here @ work are being blocked by godaddy, who refuses to remove them unless we block our customers (dialup/sdsl) port 25, which will not be happening. Secureserver tech's don't like to be told to just block *.* so they don't get any spam ever.

By default, sorbs does not seem to include the spews data:

The last box has data relating to Spews

                    Listed in both places

I don't know if sorbs uses spews or not, but my IP is showing up in both of them. As popular as godaddy is for domain registration its causing me a lot of trouble.

                        option/solution?

Since the IP is banned for cpanel 16 (which I am also using, unfortunately) perhaps an option is to get your own IP address from Dathorn and use that for your domains. I think it costs a few dollars, but is still cheaper than using a dedicated host. The new IP address wouldn't be in the sorbs database, unless one of your customers sends emails that is one day reported as spam.

All e-mail on a server is sent out the server's IP regardless of what IP your domain is hosted on.

                            Sorbs is growing

Like it or not this problem is getting worse. ww.register.com is now using sorbs lists as well. I just lost a $1000 web design job because I had to tell my potential client I would have to communicate with him through yahoo.com because his domain name host, register.com is blocking my IP. How un-professional is that?

How many people is this effecting? Anyway we could get Andrew to figure out who got cpanel16 on the list and get rid of them, and then take up a collection for the $50.00? I would about pay it myself after loosing $1000+ because of this problem. And its not old and outdated and going away, large sites are starting to use these lists.
