Why no ftp access above "public_html" directory?

    Hi guys,

Is there a way to gain ftp access above the "public_html" directory via ftp client? I can access those files using cpanel's file manager, but when i use ftp manager to create ftp accounts, it won't allow me to create an account that has access above "public_html".

    anyone?

    cheers

when I login via ftp, I see the Public_Html files and such. Is that what you are talking about?

Yeah, that's exactly what i'm talking about. When I use my ftp client I can't get that high in the hierarchy. I can only see what's inside the "public_http" directory and anything within it.

However, I just figured out that by using the ip address listed in my account's cpanel as the server instead of 'ftp.domain.com' I now have access to those files further up the hierarchy. So my problem is solved.

Is it normal not to be able to assign higher hierarchy access when creating ftp accounts using cpanel?

      Thanks for your help!

Not sure on that, I only use my main login for ftp, unless I assign a subdirectory for someone else to use (upload files, or for their own website).

Don't see a point in having multiple logins that do the same thing.
