Andrew, So you're saying ":fail:" is ok but ":fail:no such address here" makes the problem worse because it is sending back the text as a bounce message?

      Essentially, yes.

Then if at all possible the cpanel default instructions should be changed so as not to encourage people to add the extra text. If people blindly follow the directions they are inadvertently making things worse.

I agree with you. But every time the themes are updated these changes are overwritten. This is not something that we're too worried about. We monitor mail logs fairly regularly and if we see a bunch of bounce messages sent like that we will go in and adjust the ":fail: some message" to simply ":fail:".

            E-Mail Filters

            Hi,

I have never had a spam problem until lately, but all of a sudden one day I started getting hammered by spam. After setting up some email filters and SpamAssassin nothing seemed to completely stop them so here's what I did.

Apparently, these particular spammers use the same machine or at least the same (older) version of Outlook Express, so I added this to an email filter for "Any Header" that "Contains: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1106. This line was the only thing unique to every spam I got.

I have not had a single spam get through... YET. I also have a ton of other keyword filters. These guys were bypassing SpamAssasin with scores of 4 and under.

The only drawback is that if some one else is using the same version of Outlook Express their mail won't get through.

            Any comments on this method?

            James

seems risky since a lot of people don't upgrade outlook express.
