Front page publishing problem- at my wits end.

New poster here, I hope someone can help as I'm at the end of my rope.

I am having a problem with front page 2000. I get the "the server sent a response that front page could not parse.." message when I try to publish. Its not the server end, as I've tried now two different hosts, uninstalled and reinstalled front page server extensions multiple times etc. Discussed it with tech support at each of the hosts, and both indicate its a problem on my end.

I have also uninstalled, and reinstalled Front page three times on my PC so
that doesn't fix it either. Although when I reload Office I get a message that says the following. "Unable to access configuration for personal web server". I just click OK and the installation is complete. I don't believe I've gotten that when installion office in the past, but maybe I have and it didn't matter. From what I've researched on the internet for that message, I take that it is common to office 2000 being installed on an XP machine, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone can help.

One other thing I've tried was to create a new web and upload it, thinking something within the web could be corrupted, that didn't work
either. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Have you check your firewalls? Routes, Windows XP and antivirus software may all have thier own firewalls.

Sorry we can't be of much help. I suspect most of us don't have Frontpage, so troubleshooting something that might be on the PC side of things is out of our personal experience.

I did have a huge problem with a client's site and Frontpage, and it had to do with DNS resolving. His ISP had three domain name servers, and only two updated to the new site. So when he pointed Frontpage to his site, it sometimes was pointing to his old server, and sometimes the new one. Drove us nuts with him not being able to publish to the right server.

That's a long shot, but perhaps its something like that.

My suggestion, use anything other than Front Page... Do you actually have/want to use it? Even though Dreamweaver continues to grow bloat, it blows FP away IMO. Not to mention that it plays nicer with standards and doesn't require any additional, potentially unstable and unsupportable, extensions on the web server.

More relevant to your question, can you upgrade FP versions?

I still use FP on occasion and have noticed weird publishing problems as well, now days I just FTP the files over, pretty much works just as well and with less hassle.

for sure you should try and upgrade to MS Expression which is quite good really, they have a free 90 day trial.

I downloaded the trial version of expression web, same problem. I am going to try from a different PC later today to ensure its in the PC not the server end. I am to the point it looks like a Windows rebuild.

I am using front page because that is what I have. I have my own basic website for my wife's horse breeding business that I created and maintain, it requires frequent updating, so I like to do it myself; but I'm no web designer. Anyway thanks for you attempts to help, it is much appreciated. I can FTP manually, but the webcounters don't work and I find that info very useful.

Funny you should mention the web counters...that is why I FTP now, it seemed that they were always breaking and unless I went to the site often i would not notice.

I would really say use this in place of the web counter
Google Analytics gives you the tools you need to better understand your customers. You can then use those business insights to take action, such as improving your website, creating tailored audience lists, and more.

or use the stats provided in cpanel

so then you could FTP and not have to bother with the FP extensions.

                  www.snowghostpainthorses.com is my little website.
I'm getting one of GoDaddy's "parking pages" for the site when I try that URL. Are you hosting the site here at Dathorn? You may have a DNS problem if you are, because the site I went to was definitely not here at Dathorn!

I've been moving the site between two hosts trying to work the bugs out. I've decided to give up on this issue and workaround it by ftp'ing manually. Thanks for all your help.

I had the same problem, I removed IE 7, and that fixed it.
