Hi
I am using email forwarding in cpanel which is starting to have issues with ISPs blocking servers based on forwarded mail. A recent example was Hotmail although they appear to have backed off.
While investigating this problem and trying to come up with reasonable solutions, I came across a site so I could do some mx checking:
Now when I do a checkup on a domain I manage here at dathorn, it comes back with WARNING! Your server could be an open relay. Now I note it says 'could' but this worries me and all I can think is that it has to do with the fact I am using email forwarders on it. ie. myaddress@isp.com.au forwards to address@mydomain.com.au. I've checked other domains I manage (all use forwarders) and I get the same issue. I have checked a domain I don't manage and it comes back as fine - no open relay.
So my questions are:
1) Is there a better way to handle email at mydomain.com.au other than forwarders without going for a pop server?
2) Does cpanel here at dathorn with forwarders turned on create open relay problems? My concern is that even if there isn't an open relay, the fact that certain checks are saying there might, could be enough to get on blacklists.
Cheers
Michelle
