E-mail forward to Gmail

Any advice on forwarding all my mail to Gmail? Will the SPAM be forwarded, and if so, will Gmail process it as SPAM?

I'm interested in forwarding all my mail to Gmail as an attempt to combat SPAM. I've done all kinds of filters for SpamAssassin, but I'm still getting too much SPAM on my Dathorn accounts.

If you simply setup a forwarder in cPanel and forward the e-mail to your gmail.com account it will forward all e-mail and gmail's filtering system will see each message.

Thanks. Now, I've read that it's best to not have an open account combined with a forward, since the messages will remain on the server. Any advice on how to get all my archived mail over to Gmail? I want to save it all before closing the mail account.

You may be able to configure your Gmail account to download your e-mail from your existing e-mail account that is on our servers. I cannot say for sure as I've not spent much time using their services so you would have to look through their options.

Alternatively, just so you know, we do offer Postini spam/virus filtering. This is superb at filtering out spam and is far better than anything SpamAssassin could ever do.

Gmail allows up to 5 POP-3 accounts to be checked. You can choose to leave the messages on the server or have gmail delete them.

You can also send email via gmail with the accounts also, but if you do it is obvious that you sent it from gmail which does not look so good from a clients perspective.

I have three of my website email accounts and my ISP email account routed through gmail now, and it works well. Their "mail fetcher" allows you to do it for up to five accounts (full details are at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=21288)

I still use the server's SMTP mail server to send responses to people (using port 587); some spam filters are now trapping email with different "reply-to" headers.

I just leave my email program open on my pc at home, and the forwarder forwards all the email to my gmail account. So far, 100% of my email is sent to my gmail account. Good thing Charter hasn't been down at all lately. Tho power was out for about 2 hours this morning!

Since setting up my gMail account to check (and delete the messages from) my domain's e-mail addresses, I've been much happier. It's been a really great way to combat spam.

Alternately, there are the Google Apps that supposedly can totally take over all incoming mail (through direction via the MX record). I haven't yet switched over but it's something I've looked into.

Gmail account trouble

I have set up several e-mail accounts for a domain hosted on Dathorn. I use gmail as a front end for mail, and with one account this worked fine. But with another box in the same domain, gmail keeps returning login failure messages. I have changed the passwords, and am using mail.mydomain.com as server. Did I need to change the port? The last time I tried, it worked for a minute, then reverted to the error messages. Help!

PS I spoke too soon -- both boxes are returning login error messages.

Login failures tend to mean just that. If you are trying to login via mail.domain.com make sure that you actually have that address pointed to the correct location. It sounds like you may be trying to login to the wrong server. You can easily test this by going to http://mail.domain.com/webmail/ and checking your login information there.

OK, I'm probably in over my head here. I moved the domain by changing to my custom nameservers (at GoDaddy). The site looks fine. But maybe I needed to do something else to set up the mail server? I don't get a page at all when I go to http://mail.example.com/webmail

We can't really help much more without specific details. Please submit a ticket and include the actual e-mail address and password that you are having problems with.

Looks like you've entered a wrong password for the second account and Dathorn's IDS banned Google checker by IP after many successive login failures

Nope, that's not it because both accounts are having the same problem, and also the login succeeds once every few hours.
